Working with Charities

Have you gotten to that point in your life where success just isn’t enough?  What is success anyway?  Hard to utter the word nowadays, success, all the while realizing there’s this new growing, looming sense somehow of falling short.  When speaking of success most people attach dollar signs, or some equally shortsighted and financially slanted interpretation of accomplishment.  Money can be a part of it, for sure.  Resources would be a better way to put it.  Resources like your time, your experience, your passion, your skill, your love…  It’s not what you do for yourself with those resources, it’s what you do for others.  It’s how you serve.  Here’s my one word definition of success: SIGNIFICANCE.

Here are the organizations I continue to contribute my resources to:

Comanesti Romania

Romania April 2009

Romania Makeover April 2010

Hope for the Nations – Romania has held a very special place in my heart ever since I began volunteering with the organization over nine years ago.  During that time I have helped to rebuild homes, served with the Mobile Medical Unit, taking crucial Tuberculosis testing and treatment out into the countryside, and bringing much needed donations of medical supplies and equipment in from North American and Western European hospitals.  I’ve worked side-by-side with humble hardworking fathers, digging trenches to bring running water and septic into modest one room homes…

Firm Foundations Romania.  In addition to providing care for Romania’s sick and displaced newborns, Firm Foundations Romania has taken on the task of reuniting these small children with their families, striving to educate parents on the importance of keeping their children in their own homes.  Further, we have a teenage mentoring program, as well as a MOM’s project designed to help new mothers learn basic skills for caring for themselves and their newborns…

Halftime is about helping you discover and plan the good work God has wired you for at a time in your life when you are uniquely positioned to take advantage of your dreams, passion, skills, time and experience to transform your life of success into a life of significance…

Habitat for Humanity is about a hand up, not a hand out.  I have served as a Global Village volunteer in Comanesti, Romania; Skopje, Macedonia; Orlando, Florida; and Molokai, Hawaii.  It is a great opportunity to see how you can make a difference, working alongside local families who, thanks to Habitat, are able to have their very own first home.  Thanks to interest free loans, repaid money goes right back out to building more homes for more families.  Habitat is a great vacation opportunity, and a great opportunity to serve.
